Posted in Uncategorized on 23.02.11 by Merlyn

Signet rings are mostly a massive and ornate gold seal ring. Here no fancy or heavy Stones are used for their decoration relying more on the intricacies of the band and the engravings for their visual appeal. The wide popularity that these rings have gained in due course of time is because of the people who have worn them. The style, sign and the design of their rings attracted even more attention. The following are some of the most famous Signet rings::
- Pompey: The Roman politician, Gnaeus Pompeis Magnus, better known as Pompey, was one of the greatest generals of his time. His ring displayed a lion bearing a sword.
- Julius Caesar: His ring had an armed Venus.
- Caesar Augustus: Grand nephew of Julius Caesar. His ring first had a sphinx, then the head of Alexander the Great which he finally replaced and placed his own image.
- Nero: was the last of the Roman Emperors. His reputation was as an ineffectual, neglectful and brutal leader. His signet ring represented the flaying of Marsyas by Apollo.
- Michelangelo: The face of his signet ring had a carving of a segment of the Sistine Chapel.
