Choosing Rings Materials

Posted in Uncategorized on 24.01.11 by Merlyn

Rings come in a great variety of natural materials both metals and stones, with stones used usually as decoration but sometimes as the main material. Modern designs may even use acrylic or other ‘funky’ colorful materials, these aren’t for everyone though and many people want to invest in traditional materials which will last so that they can have a jewelry piece that they can enjoy throughout their lifetimes and then pass on to the next generation.
Gold of different colors as well as silver and platinum are the only real options for a truly durable and beautiful ring. Having said this titanium is one other option to consider giving a striking look while being almost completely resistant to wear and damage.
Base metals such as iron, copper and nickel react with acids and salts to corrode easily, often leaving marks on fingers where a chemical reaction takes place, though these are used with plating in other metals including gold or silver, the plate will eventually rub away making this jewelry only good for a certain amount of time.
When choosing the metal for your ring make sure that you buy from a reputable dealer who provides hallmarks, ensure they are the right hallmarks for your location.
Stones used in rings need to be as durable as the metal. Diamonds of course are totally durable as long as they have no imperfections, check the report on a diamond when you buy it. Other stones though give a wider range of colors and often cost less. Ruby, Sapphire Opals and Emeralds though are sought after for their vibrant colors and for their durability.
